Demo at Kimball Physics

Today, a group of students and mentors demonstrated our robot, Fezzik, to a local manufacturer of high-tech scientific instruments, Kimball Physics. One employee was so enthused, she brought her sons into work to show them our robot!

Kimball Physics specializes in high stability electron emitters, precision electrostatic and magnetostatic optics, along with state of the art vacuum chambers and fittings. Electron and ion systems are optimized for beam energies ranging from 1 eV to 100 keV and beam currents from femtoamperes to amperes.

A Week of Outreach

In the week leading up to the New England District Championships, Team 1729 has reached out to the community, talking about the hardest fun: the FIRST Robotics Competition. We've performed demos for sponsors. We talked with a reporter for a local paper, showing him our build space, explaining about the season and showing him our robot. We also hosted an open house, inviting the community at large to learn about our program and our associated FIRST Lego League teams.

FIRST Stronghold!

This is the 25th season of the FIRST Robotics Competition season with 3,128 teams spanning 24 countries involving over 75,000 students and 19,000 mentors!

At more than 125 events across the world, alliances of three robots are on a quest to breach their opponents’ fortifications, weaken their tower with boulders, and capture their tower!

Robots operate independently for the first 15 seconds of the quest, scoring points by reaching opponents’ defenses, crossing them, and scoring boulders through goals in the opposing tower.

In the final 2 minutes and 15 second of each match, students take control of the robot defending their castle, retrieving boulders, defeating defenses, scoring goals from the opponents’ courtyard by shooting boulders in the opposing tower, and capturing and scaling the opponent’s tower.

The alliance with the highest score at the end of the quest wins!
